Here are a few images of a new series I’ve been working on. These are line drawings incised with an awl and filled in like a stain with oil paints. I will continue with this series in the next couple of weeks (after the holidays have blown over!).
This series is the answer to my question, “How do I get my line drawings that I’ve been sketching in my little sketchbook, into my encaustic paintings?” These are what came from that pondering…

Hi – I just found this blog via a post on facebook.
I fill my incised lines with encaustic and then scrape, although I’ve recently begun experimenting filling with oil pastels. I like filling with encaustic because I can do wider lines. when you fill with oil paints, do you just wipe off the excess?
If you want to see an example or two of my encaustic-filled incisions, you can go to malissamartinwilke.wordpress.com. I should have a couple up in the next couple of hours.
I’m looking forward to seeing more of this site. Thanks for creating it!
